In 1926, a maritime signal beacon was installed in Na Foradada, which became part of the Balearic Islands’ network of lighthouses and signals. It was originally powered by acetylene gas. Currently, it operates with solar energy and a remote control system, managed by the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB). It is a particularly important navigational aid for ships entering the port of Cabrera from the north.
Despite its small size, the islet is important for both navigation and biodiversity. Since 1926, it has had an automated maritime beacon that acts as a reference point for ships. Furthermore, endemic species of flora and fauna have been identified, such as a local variant of the Xerocrassa snail.
