Portonovo is the first inland port of the northern Pontevedra Estuary.
The dock is always busy with numerous boats. Sailors have to anchor at a certain distance since often most berths are occupied by other local boats.
The Portonovo Yacht Club has more than 330 members, their families, and 160 boats. It has seamanship throughout the entire year.
Since 1993, a sailing school has been trying to consolidate this sport among its youngest members. The Club has a fleet of thirteen boats: seven of the Optimist class, four of the Cadet class, one Raquero – a Spanish class sailing boat – and one of the Vaurien class.
Within the framework of sailing or cruising competitions, the Club has been organizing since 1996, in August, the Cruise Regatta Hotel Galatea Trophy. It is a two-day regatta, included in the calendar of the Galician Sailing Federation. Since 2003, this regatta is scoring for the „Copa Galicia de Cruceros,“ and every July, another cruising regatta called the „Estrella Seguros“ Trophy.
In early 2002, they created a section of underwater activities in which they offer recreational diver training classes, equipped with a standard Coltri MCH 16 compressor and other material for scuba diving trips.
