This heritage element could also be called the Gate of Al-Andalus. It was conceived as an access point in the wall ordered to be built by Abderramán III, after the conquest of Ceuta in the year 931, to close off the area around the current isthmus of the city. The caliphal epithet is due to its belonging to the period of the Caliphate of Córdoba.
The Caliphal Gate and its site, which in Roman times was an industrial area, are part of a perfectly visible timeline that almost magically transports us to past times thanks to its good state of preservation and the excellent work carried out. In its surroundings, we find an exceptional historical conglomerate that ranges from prehistoric times to the present day, in no more than 20 linear meters. Twenty-one centuries of history in a very small space make this site unique. Composed of ashlar blocks, large rectangular stones placed in “header and stretcher bond” lines, this gate shows in its very structure its caliphal and defensive character, since this type of masonry was used to withstand the impacts of the huge stones thrown by catapults in times of war.

The offer of water and land routes is enormous in Ceuta. In these lines, we propose just a few as a sample of their diversity and richness. The company Watergames Educa Ceuta offers three water routes to visitors. They assure that tourists will experience an aquatic adventure alongside instructors, biologists, and sailors, always within the scope of sustainable leisure. Additionally, they claim the photographs will be spectacular.
On one hand, there is the nocturnal water route, which crosses the moat at sunset with the Murallas Reales illuminated. It is done on a water bike or pedal board. The itinerary is as follows: marina, sunset next to the Maritime Park, Foso Real, Ribera beach, Fuente Caballo beach, and marina.
They also offer the Border and Almadraba Route, visiting this very popular fishermen’s neighborhood in the city of Ceuta. They even reach the border with the company’s instructors. It is done on a water bike or pedal board. The route is as follows: marina, Foso Real, Chorrillo beach, Punta del Morro, La Almadraba, Border, and marina.
Finally, the Natura 2000 Ecological Network Route stands out. It covers ravines and marine spots of great beauty, all protected, using a water bike, kayak, or pedal board. The itinerary is as follows: marina, Murallas Reales, Ribera beach, Fuente Caballo beach, Desnarigado cove, Desnarigado castle, Monte Hacho, and marina.

If the sea conditions are good, the route goes around Punta Almina and returns to the safe harbor, completing a full circle around Monte Hacho. There is an explanatory loudspeaker system about everything that can be seen.
If the sea state allows, the boat skirts Punta Almina and enters the port through the mouth, thus completing a full sea circuit around Monte Hacho. If not possible, the opposite route is taken.
