Prehistoric complex of s’Hospitalet Vell

The Prehistoric Complex of s’Hospitalet Vell is an important archaeological site located in the municipality of Manacor, on the island of Mallorca, Balearic Islands.

Rural

The oldest remains at the site date back to the pre-Talayotic period, which began around 2200 BC. During this period, people built oval-shaped dwellings called navetas, made of large stones laid dry, without any cement. Later, during the Talayotic period, around 900 BC, large towers called talayots began to be built, serving as lookout points, meeting places, and even centers of power.

This complex is representative of Balearic prehistory and shows several phases of human occupation, especially of the Pre-Talayotic and Talayotic cultures, which developed in the Balearic Islands during the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.
