The medieval town of San Esteban de Gormaz, declared a Historic-Artistic Ensemble in 1995, is located on the Ruta de la Lana and the Camino del Cid, on the banks of the Duero River, 70 kilometers from the capital of Soria. The area where the municipality is located has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Moving into history, there are Roman and Arab settlements of which some remains still exist. Highlights include its Castle, the Medieval Bridge, the Church of Nuestra Señora del Rivero, the Church of San Miguel, the Parish Church of San Esteban Protomártir, among others. Additionally, the municipality is part of several routes of great tourist and cultural importance such as the Camino del Cid, the Ruta de la Lana of the Camino de Santiago, the Ribera del Duero Wine Route, and the Duero Trail. Furthermore, the town is considered a Magical Town of Spain.
