The Pasaia Estuary has the appearance of a fjord, a narrow natural passage cut between mountains leading to a sheltered inner space.
Sailing directions and approach instructions
Approaching from the W, the Jaizquibel peak will be recognized, next to which the antennas can be seen, especially at night. Once at the height of San Sebastián, the best landmark is the Pasajes fronton, on whose summit is the white lighthouse building.
Arriving from the E, after passing Pta. Turulla, the lighthouse lantern will be visible.
Before starting the entry into the Estuary, it is important to know two shoals that anchor symmetrically at the mouth and almost in a N/S line with the points that define it. The “Bajo Bancha del E” to the N of “Punta Arando Aundi” and the “Bajo Bancha del W” to the N of “Punta Arando Txiki.” Both are marked.
