A Domus do Mitreo is an important archaeological site located in the historic center of Lugo, discovered during the construction works of the Vice-Rectorate of the Lugo Campus on the site of the former Pazo de Montenegro.

It corresponds to a large and wealthy ancient Roman house (domus), occupied between the 1st and 4th centuries AD, which preserves rooms decorated with mosaics, mural paintings, and a thermal system.

The most notable feature of the site is the presence of a mithraeum, a sanctuary dedicated to the oriental god Mithras, making it an exceptional find in the context of Roman Hispania.

The archaeological complex, perfectly preserved and integrated into the museum, offers a unique insight into domestic life, religiosity, and the urban evolution of the Roman city of Lugo. Its heritage value lies both in its state of conservation and in the uniqueness of the mithraeum, which reinforces the Roman and sacred character of the site.
