The Bizkaia Suspension Bridge, also known as the Bizkaia Bridge, Hanging Bridge, Portugalete Bridge, or Portugalete Hanging Bridge, is a toll transporter bridge, conceived, designed, and built by private initiative between 1887 and 1893, connecting the two banks of the Bilbao estuary. This civil engineering construction was inaugurated on July 28, 1893, being the first bridge of its type in the world.
