Os Peares Enclave and River Beach

About this heritage

Os Peares is a unique locality situated in the enclave known as Tres Ríos, where the Sil, Búbal, and Miño rivers converge. This village is famous for its administrative complexity: it belongs to two provinces (Lugo and Ourense), four municipalities, three judicial districts, and two dioceses, making it the most complex village in Spain. In 1999, the different administrations created the Os Peares Local Consortium to better manage its services. Additionally, Os Peares has an area adapted as a river beach, ideal for swimming in the dammed waters of the Miño, which attracts numerous visitors and locals in the summer.

To learn more

Os Peares is a very special village because it is right where three rivers meet: the Sil, the Búbal, and the Miño. The curious thing is that it belongs to two different provinces, Lugo and Ourense, and to four different municipalities, all at once! That’s why it is said to be the most complicated village in Spain. There is a river beach where, in summer, people go to swim and have fun in the water. It’s a great place to spend a day with family and see how the rivers mix.

To know it better

Os Peares constitutes a unique geographical and administrative enclave located at the confluence of the Sil, Búbal, and Miño rivers, known as Tres Ríos. Its particularity lies in its simultaneous belonging to two provinces (Lugo and Ourense), four municipalities, three judicial districts, and two dioceses, which gives it an administrative complexity unparalleled in Spanish territory. In 1999, given this situation, the Os Peares Local Consortium was established to coordinate inter-administrative management. The area features a river beach on the dammed waters of the Miño, which constitutes an important tourist and recreational resource during the summer season, significantly increasing the influx of both local and foreign visitors.
