Peto de Animas San Pedro de Trasalba

The peto de ánimas is a small open-type religious monument, where you can see a niche with two souls in a praying attitude over the flames of Purgatory. Below the niche, there is a small protruding table with the alms box, which is currently covered. Above the niche appears a small skull, and the stone is finished with moldings on the sides. The ensemble ends in a cross with a square section and chamfered edges. Crosses and petos de ánimas over 100 years old are protected by law as Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC), according to the state and Galician heritage regulations.

The peto de ánimas is like a small stone house that you can see on some paths in Galicia. Inside, it has a window where two little figures are carved praying among flames, representing the souls of Purgatory. Below, there is a table with a box where people used to leave coins to help the souls. Above the window, there is a skull, and everything is decorated with beautiful shapes. At the top, it has a cross. These petos are very old and are protected by law because they are part of Galicia's history and traditions.
