The Bilbao Estuary, also known as the Nervión or Ibaizábal Estuary, is the mouth of the Nervión and Ibaizábal rivers into the Cantabrian Sea. It crosses the city of Bilbao, dividing it into two, and extends for 23 kilometers to its mouth between the municipalities of Santurtzi, Getxo, and Ciérvana. It has been fundamental for the development of Bilbao as a port and industrial center. It has boosted the area's economic activity, including industry, maritime transport, and tourism.
