The French Way of the Camino de Santiago, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, finds in Portomarín one of its most emblematic and symbolic passages.

The route of the Camino crosses the heart of the new Portomarín, rebuilt after the creation of the Belesar reservoir in the 1960s.

This town in Lugo is not only a transit point for thousands of pilgrims each year but also a place where history, art, spirituality, and collective resilience merge.

The bridge over the Miño River, the natural entry point to the urban center, marks the access to this stage, considered one of the most beautiful on the Camino. From here, the pilgrim ascends to encounter the living heritage of Portomarín: churches, manor houses, fountains, and the constant presence of the Camino.

Besides its historical value, the stretch stands out for its scenic and natural richness, combining the waters of the Miño with gentle hills, native forests, and vineyards that accompany the walker towards Palas de Rei. This route offers the pilgrim a profound experience of connection with the environment, with oneself, and with the long Jacobean tradition.
