About this heritage

Domaio belongs to Moaña´s City Council, a municipality that belongs to the town halls group that make up the Morrazo peninsula, in harmony with Bueu, Cangas and Marín and which offer its visitors endless opportunities to enjoy the most incredible landscapes, the most charming beaches or its gastronomy made with fresh fish and seafood from the estuary.

But if the region´s natural wealth in terms of coastal landscapes is at the highest level, its mountains, from which you can see spectacular landscapes are not far behind. The night view of Rande bridge is an example of this.

Domaio, has 2 ports, the Domaio´s old port and the current port located in Ensenada de Mouro, which has 198 moorings distributed in 9 pontoons. The port is protected by a block barrier. Most of the moorings belong to the management company, which is in charge of their maintenance.

Domaio´s coasts have experienced many historic moments, such as the naval battle of 1702, in which the succession to the Spanish Crown and the defence of the treasures of the La Plata Fleet were at stake. At the bottom of its coast, lie the ships that sank to prevent from falling into enemy hands and which gave rise to the “legend of Rande´s treasure”.

Domaio and Moaña, give us an important cultural heritage. Among many other things, we can highlight the Mámoas do Chan de Arquiña (burial mound) and its archaeological remains, the Carreiras museum, the Pazo do Rosal (traditional manor house), the San Martiño church or the routes to the beaches of Vedeira, Meira, Domaio, O Con or A Borna.

Special mention should be made of the Domaio lighthouse, which rises to a height of 636.20 metres and marks the highest point in the region. From this mountain, we have full control of Vigo and Pontevedra estuaries. The vegetation is dominated by oak and chestnut trees as a sample of the Atlantic forest, although other species have been gaining space with the man´s help.

Domaio´s mountain also has space for leisure, especially for history and archaeology lovers, such as the area of Chan da Arquiña where there is a megalithic monument with the same name, a mámoa (burial mound) with more than 5,000 years, composed of a polygonal chamber with 11 vertical stones and a corridor of 5 stones.

From Domaio´s port we can observe a rafts polygon in which the appreciated mussels are raised. Both ports have beaches nearby. The Tella beach, the Almacén beach, the Fontexelo beach or the Quixeira beach in the Mouro´s cove and the Port´s beach next to Domaio´s port.

Domaio, a parish of Moaña, has a large port. It has 198 mooring points on 9 piers and a vertical barrier of concrete blocks. This barrier is in charge of protecting the facilities from strong waves and winds.

Domaio´s beach is of fine sand and is very close to the pier. From it, you can see the rafts that are in Vigo´s estuary.

Moaña is a municipality located in Pontevedra´s province, on the Morrazo´s coast. The latter is made up of five town halls: Bueu, Cangas, Marín, Moaña and Vilaboa. In the centre of Moaña, the port stands out as the main supplier of its market and of the different restaurants in the area. In addition, in this area you can also see the typical houses of a seafaring neighbourhood, with low height and varied colours.
