To learn more

The House of the Mosaics, or Domus of Oceanus, is an important heritage site located in the historic center of Lugo, near the ancient Roman forum.

It corresponds to a large domus, built between the late 3rd and early 4th centuries AD, distinguished by its rich decoration and excellent state of preservation.

Among its most valuable elements is the mosaic featuring the image of the god Oceanus, which gives the site its name, along with other high-quality mosaic pavements, visible both inside and through an archaeological window on the street.

It also preserves structures such as the oecus or reception hall, a triclinium with hypocaust, a porticoed courtyard, and remains of original mural painting. It offers an exceptional testimony of Roman domestic architecture and the high artistic and technical level achieved in ancient Lucus Augusti.
