This urban park of great natural and historical value extends along the valley of the Chanca river, formed by the confluence of the Rato and Fervedoira rivers, and offers a setting of great scenic beauty.

One of the most outstanding elements of the park is the Viaduct of A Chanca, an impressive railway engineering work built between 1871 and 1874. This viaduct, nearly 300 meters long and 29 meters high, was fundamental for the arrival of the railway to Lugo and is considered one of the most important railway constructions in Spain of its time.

The park is part of the Camino Primitivo, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and of the Terras do Miño Biosphere Reserve, also recognized by UNESCO. Additionally, it connects with other green spaces such as the Paseo del Rato and the Parque de Paradai, making it a key node of Lugo's green belt.
