To learn more

La Rúa Nova is one of the oldest and most representative streets in the historic center of Lugo, being therefore the historic street in the center of Lugo of Roman origin, connecting Praza do Campo with Porta Nova as part of the urban layout of Lucus Augusti.

It was a key artery in the commercial and residential development of the city. Among its most notable heritage elements are blazoned houses, such as those located at numbers 3 and 43, which preserve heraldic shields of noble families from Lugo.

The street has also been the subject of recent archaeological excavations that have revealed Roman industrial structures, such as ceramic kilns, confirming its importance as a productive area during the imperial era.

Today, Rúa Nova is a pedestrian street that combines historic architecture with urban dynamism, reflecting Lugo's heritage continuity from its Roman origins to the present day.
