Sa Puntassa Lighthouse takes its name from the cape that closes the bay of Migjorn, on the south coast of Mallorca, within the municipality of Ses Salines, in the tourist area of the Colonia de Sant Jordi. Just in front of the lighthouse is the islet of Na Corberana.
It is an automatic lighthouse with a cylindrical tower featuring black horizontal stripes. Its light is white and emits 3 flashes at intervals of 10 seconds. This lighthouse serves to indicate the location of the port of Colonia de San Jorge or Puerto de Campos to vessels crossing the Freu de Cabrera, as this port is the closest to the Cabrera archipelago.
Access by land is very easy, as it can be reached without any problem from the streets of the urban center of Colonia de Sant Jordi.
The cape of Sa Puntassa Lighthouse is low and rocky, allowing navigation close by, as the depth near the shore is around 4 meters. In fact, the area is also known as "Es Carregador," since in the past ships with significant draft approached to load various materials, mainly the salt produced in the nearby salt flats.
