Description

• Melgaço and Monção are the most northern municipalities of Portugal, known for their landscapes, history, gastronomy, and the highly appreciated and recognized green wine grape variety of Alvariño.
• Come and discover their magnificent nature through the rafting and kayaking adventures, descending the Miño River, or come and enjoy a delightful Alvariño wine while touring throughout the region.
• Rafting is defined as the descent of a river with rapids in self-inflating or inflatable boats. In this activity, the river is in charge, and the transposition of its rapids and whirling waves is the main objective when going rafting. An experienced person guides participants as a group during the trip. It is necessary to put into practice the concept of team spirit to go downstream and overcome the river's obstacles, as well as understanding that rhythm, working in unison, solidarity, the sense of leadership, and sensory perception are crucial concepts to move the raft forward. Throughout the activity, there will be a constant interaction with the built cultural heritage and the art of fishing in the Miño River, as well as reminders of smuggling.
• One of our suggestions to know Melgaço is through a walk along the riverbank to discover its corners, customs, and history. For approximately two hours and with a local tour guide, participants will explore the fishing traditions by visiting cabins (old angler's warehouses) and fishing grounds along these historical trails. On top of that, participants will pass through some Alvariño vineyards until reaching the charming hot springs of Melgaço. We can define this trip in three words, past, present, and future.
• The kayak trip consists of sailing across the middle of mirror-like waters in an inflatable one or two-person canoe. An experienced guide accompanies the participants throughout the activity to indicate the correct and safe trajectory. This magnificent canoe trip offers everyone impressive landscapes, forgotten times, and remaining legends.
• In between activities, everyone will have the opportunity to visit typical wineries of the region, including the area in Spain, to participate in wine tastings of the famous and valued Alvariño wine, and to visit the historical sites of both municipalities.

Recommendations

• Knowing how to swim.
• Minors must be over eight years old to carry out the activities and accompanied by a guardian (a person of legal age. They must also fill-out a liability form signed by that guardian.
• For the water activities: It is the participant's responsibility to wear wet shoes, a swimsuit, and have the appropriate personal hygiene products.
• For the hiking activity: please, wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
