Nautic Destination

THE MUSSEL IN THE AROSA ESTUARY. THE RAFTS

Description

  • With this itinerary, let us enjoy knowing the culture of the mussel and the life of the playwright Ramón María del Valle-Inclán, who will show us the Arousa Estuary. Passengers will begin the navigation in Vilagarcía de Arousa Port to continue through Boiro and Vilanova de Arousa towns, which will offer us a new vision of this estuary.
  • The history of mussel culture began in the mid-18th century when Galician oyster pickling was at its peak. The Santiago de Compostela's Councillor, Don José Cornide Saavedra, already said about mussels, "their meat, after that of the oyster, is the best." At that time, there were no cultures in the strict sense of the word; mussels came from parks or specific regions, which were subjected to a concession regime-held by some families.
