- Considered unofficially as the capital of the western Costa del Sol, Marbella undoubtedly has enough ingredients to be one of the most important tourist centers in Spain. Its privileged location, at the foot of Sierra Blanca, on the coastline, provides excellent climatic conditions as well as great scenic beauty. Its origins date back to the Roman era, from which abundant archaeological remains exist; similarly, from the Arab period it preserves two towers and the walls of the Castle; from the Christian era, in the old town, it preserves the Church of the Incarnation, the Corregidor's House, and the Hospital of San Juan de Dios. But where Marbella truly excels is in its sun and beach tourism offer: splendid and extensive beaches, natural areas of interest such as the Cabopino Dunes or the Chapas Pine Forests, marinas, golf courses, sports clubs, and a wide variety of establishments that justify its fame. Seven kilometers away is the populous urban area of San Pedro de Alcántara, annexed to Marbella, which originated from the installation of a sugar mill in 1860.
