- The municipality of Castro Urdiales is located at the easternmost end of the Cantabria region, forming a trapezoid oriented NW-SE.
One third of its borders are shared with the Basque Country (municipalities of Sopuerta, Muskiz, Artzentales, and Trucios-Turtzioz), and the rest with the Cantabrian Sea and the municipalities of Guriezo and Liendo (barely the Oriñón-Sonabia line as a point of contact).
The progressive decentralization of some productive activities, as well as the fact that many citizens from Greater Bilbao have settled permanently in Castro-Urdiales, have turned this town into a city mainly focused on services, second homes, weekend and seasonal tourism, leisure, production of auxiliary goods, etc., without forgetting fishing and small industry.
