Route and approach instructions

The anchorage and headquarters of the RCN Castro Urdiales are in the center of the harbor protected by the 515 m breakwater which, at a heading of 308º, starts from the green beacon that crowns its end to the slipways adjacent to the San Guillén fishing pier, which protects it from the North, and a counter-breakwater known as Muelle de Don Luis Ocharán that starts from the point closing the Brazomar cove, extending about 250 m at 037º and marked with a red beacon at its tip. Between the green and red beacons, there is an entrance open to the SE, 285 m wide with a depth between 10 and 12 m. About 500 m from the start of the counter-breakwater, there is a structure on stilts measuring 22 x 19 m, connected to land by a walkway approximately 55 m long where the Castro Urdiales Nautical Club is located.

Environment
The municipality of Castro Urdiales is located at the easternmost end of the Cantabria region, forming a trapezoid oriented NW-SE. One third of its borders are shared with the Basque Country (municipalities of Sopuerta, Muskiz, Artzentales, and Trucios-Turtzioz), and the rest with the Cantabrian Sea and the municipalities of Guriezo and Liendo (barely the Oriñón-Sonabia line as a point of contact). The progressive decentralization of some productive activities, as well as the fact that many citizens from Greater Bilbao have settled permanently in Castro-Urdiales, have turned this town into a city mainly focused on services, second homes, weekend and seasonal tourism, leisure, production of auxiliary goods, etc., without forgetting fishing and small industry.
