About this port

The surroundings of the Tanxarela pier stand out for the visual depth offered by the Miño River, framed by the vineyards covering both banks. You can see the terraces and traditional paths used to transport grapes, as well as the old dock that facilitated river communication through characteristic boats of the area. Some of these boats, now restored and preserved, were flat and had long oars, adapted for the transport of animals, goods, and people. The nearby village preserves a valuable set of traditional buildings, designed to offer protection against the prevailing winds of the area.

Río Miño - Sil - Ribeira Sacra
Environment
This pier allows the start of a navigation along the Miño River that reveals the unique characteristics of the Ribeira Sacra. Upstream, depending on the vessel's draft, you can reach the Belesar reservoir, where its ports, vineyards, churches, and rural landscapes stand out. Going downstream along the river, the harshness of the terrain on the terraces is appreciated, and how the mountains seem to rise even more, dotted with small traditional villages. Along the river route, it is possible to admire Romanesque churches and hermitages, symbols of the cultural heritage of the area. The town of Chantada, with its historical richness and strategic location, allows easy connection to other destinations such as Portomarín and Os Peares, where the Miño and Sil rivers converge in a site of great natural value.
