Nautic Destination

The Cassiterides, Atlantic Route of the Phoenicians and Galaic World: Vigo and Pontevedra estuaries.

Description

  • With this itinerary you will get to know and enjoy navigation through the history and landscapes of the estuaries of Arousa, Pontevedra and Vigo bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. This will be aided by augmented vision and audio.
  • An approach to the towns, islands and cities where you will be able to appreciate their origins and way of life. Baiona, Vigo, Pontevedra, Cambados, the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park or the Ulla River are some of the places where the Phoenicians and other cultures left their mark.
  • This Phoenician-Punic civilization arose from the area of the Near East and, hidden under the greatness of the enemy civilizations of Greece and Rome, did not have the prominence that on many occasions it had deserved. It's people were good navigators who created sea lanes throughout the Mediterranean, even reaching the south of Great Britain through Galicia and Brittany in France.
  • They founded more than 80 cities and ports where they took their products and, more deeply, their culture. 3.000 years ago, a group of Phoenicians set out from the current Lebanese coast creating the sea route that would be called the Cassiterides Route, in honor of how the tin islands, in the Rías Baixas, were baptized.
  • Writings by Herodotus, Strabo or Pliny the Elder speak of them.
  • This route includes during the itinerary small stopovers at sea, to discover in panoramic views the heritage of interest, through the use of the augmented reality application NAR.
