DISCOVER THE UNDERWATER TREASURES OF THE XACOBEA ROUTE AND THE AROUSA SEA

Description

• With this itinerary you will enjoy an underwater and gastronomic experience while discovering the places where, according to legend, the body of Apostle Santiago arrived from Jerusalem to Galicia. This itinerary is part of the Xacobea Route of Mar de Arousa and Ulla River.
• Tradition tells that Saint James the Greater, one of Jesus' favorite Apostles who was beheaded by order of Herod Agrippa, his disciples collected the remains of the saint after his death. They transported them in a boat without a rudder, which God guided from Palestine to the Galician coasts, where he was buried. Above the tomb, a mausoleum was built according to the model of the Roman necropolis, consisting of a small construction surrounded by columns, the remains of which are still guarded in the basement of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
• During the underwater itinerary we will immerse ourselves in the surroundings of Ribeira, A Pobra do Caramiñal and Boiro. We will discover islands, lighthouses, the famous mussel rafts or "bateas" and underwater rocky areas where the renowded Galician seafood lives. We will seize the opportunity to visit the fishing districts of Ribeira, A Pobra do Caramiñal, Escarabote (Boiro) and Rianxo. Finally, we will enjoy a relaxing day on Cabio beach in A Pobra do Caramiñal, being able to enjoy kayak or paddle surf trips in the area.
• We will visit museums and interpretation centers of the marine culture and churches linked to Apostle Santiago accompanied by our guides.
• The Traslatio Xacobea is promoted by the "Fundación Ruta Xacobea Mar de Arousa". To obtain it, it is necessary to have the Nautical Credential and stamp it at least two times in different two ports of Ría de Arousa and stamp & deliver it for the last time in the Church of Santiago de Padrón to receive the Diploma. This circuit includes obtaining the seals in Ribeira, A Pobra do Caramiñal.
• This route includes stops in the sea during the dives, to discover the heritage of interest in panoramic views through the use of the augmented reality with the NAR mobile application.
