Built in the 18th century atop the hill of A Capela, the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Guadalupe is a prominent example of Baroque Marian temples in the Ribeira Sacra.

Its location on an elevated point reflects the tradition of situating these sanctuaries outside urban centers, linked to popular devotion and the celebration of pilgrimages, especially the one on the first Sunday of September.

The building features a Latin cross plan, single nave, transept, dome over the crossing, and polygonal apse inside. Constructed of granite masonry, its Baroque façade stands out with a relief of the Pietà and its simple lintelled entrance.

Inside, Tuscan pilasters, coffered vaults, and remnants of mural paintings testify to its artistic richness.

The main altarpiece, in Baroque style with Rococo touches, and the 18th-century side altarpieces complete the ensemble.

This sanctuary, beyond its architectural value, constitutes an emblematic place of Galicia's spiritual and intangible heritage, deeply connected to the landscape and cultural identity of the Ribeira Sacra.
