Eiras beach. O Rosal´s vineyards and cellars

About this heritage

O Rosal´s subarea is known for producing high quality wines, thanks to the Loureira grape, also known as Marqués. It is a highly appreciated variety for its richness in original aromas and flavours, reminiscent of laurel. This area is characterized by mild temperatures.

The Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin covers five production subzones: Condado do Tea, O Rosal, O Salnés, Ribeira do Ulla and Soutomaior. Of all of these, O Rosal´s subarea is the one we are now dealing with, while the regulatory council includes the following native varieties: White grapes: Albariño, Loureira blanca o Marqués, Treixadura, Caiño blanco, Torrontés and Godello. Red grapes: Caiño red, Castañal, Espadeiro, Red Loureira, Sousón, Mencia, Brancellao and Pedral.

The commitment to native varieties has been very important since the creation of the Denomination of Origin. Each grape type is the one that best adapts to its soil and this gives it special characteristics and taste.

Every second weekend in July, the town council of O Rosal celebrates the Rosal Wine Fair (Feria del vino del Rosal), a fair that has been declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia; it is a unique opportunity to visit and taste these wines.

Along its four kilometres of coast the visitor will be able to enjoy its beaches like the ones of Eiras, Tabagón and San Miguel, or the beach located in the natural protected area of the Tamuxe river.
