About this heritage

Meira is a parish belonging to the municipality of Moaña, in Pontevedra, it belongs to the group of town halls that make up the Morrazo peninsula, in harmony with Bueu, Cangas and Marín, and it offers its visitors endless opportunities to enjoy the most incredible landscapes, the most charming beaches or its cuisine made with fresh fish and seafood from the estuary.

Its port, located in the north of Vigo´s estuary, is a fishing port. It is a sheltered port and has various facilities, such as the dry marina on Samertolameu island, or the mooring of goods or passenger boats.

Meira´s port is also home to the Samertolameu Sports Society, an entity that goes back many years, in 1933, when it won its first Flag of the Republic, a competition organized by the Vigo´s nautical Club. After the coup d'état and the dictatorship, no more competitions were held until 1952, when a combined crew of Meira and Tiran won the first Generalissimo Cup. In 1960 Meira won the Spanish Championship.

Meira´s parish has a complete recreational area around the port, where children can enjoy their playgrounds with lots of swings and beaches on both sides of the port. Nearby is the beach of La Junquera and more sports facilities. We are located in an urban area, so we have all the services we need nearby.

The S. D. Samertolameu was created as such in 1979 to compete within the federations. It had three disciplines: football, athletics and rowing. From 1981 to 1995, the S. D. found an outstanding place in the Galician rowing world, achieving many victories. Nowadays this society is a reference in the Spanish rowing and its sports school continues to give great results in different categories competitions.

Moaña has an important cultural heritage such as, the Carreiras museum, both Pazos (traditional manor houses) of Rosal and El Real, the San Martiño church, and also routes to the beaches of Vedeira, Meira, Domaio, O Con or A Borna.

Discover the promenade that runs through the town or the area of Chan da Arquiña in Mount Xaxan where there is a megalithic monument with the same name and a mámoa (burial site) with more than 5000 years, consisting of a polygonal chamber with 11 vertical stones and a corridor of 5 stones.

Moaña´s old town offers visitors all the services and leisure options they may need. Moaña is a destination of sun, beach and nature, but also gastronomic and cultural. The starting point to know the whole Morrazo region or to enjoy a great holiday without leaving the town.

Its port is located on the old island of San Bartomeu, as it is now attached to the mainland.

Meira is the largest parish in Moaña and has several fairly populated villages. Meira´s port is located in the north of the Ría de Vigo, separated from that of Moaña by the beach of A Xunqueira. More specifically, it is located in San Bartolomé de Meira cove, and there is a Rowing Club there that has the same name. In the port, fishing and mussel farming are the main activities.

Samertolameu's rowing club dates back to 1979 but the tradition of rowing in Meira began in the 1930s at Vigo´s nautical club. Today, this club has become a historical reference at national level.
