About this port

The port of Pontecesures is located in the north of the province of Pontevedra, on the left bank of the Ulla river, near its mouth in the Ría de Arousa. It is worth highlighting the numerous cruceiros in the area, such as the Obra Pía de S. Lázaro built in the 14th century, the one in Carreiras, and the Alfoli da Cova. Additionally, in civil architecture, the Pazo da Cova from the 18th century and the typical Caldeirón complex, located in the Porto neighborhood, stand out. The parish church, with a single nave, preserves Romanesque remains. The town’s old artisanal tradition is present in the Sail Workshop, the Ceramics School, and the Celtic ceramic figures.

Port entrance

Route and approach instructions

We must head towards Vilagarcía de Arousa leaving Illa de Arousa to starboard within the main navigation channel.

Upon reaching the entrance mouth of the commercial port of Vilagarcía, set course north of Cortegada island. The entrance buoys to the Ulla river and the port of Carril will appear.

Navigation of the river requires tidal conditions and is only possible to ascend in a light, shallow-draft vessel.

On the way up the river, you will pass in front of the Catoira dock, Vilarello until arriving at Pontecesures. The dock will be located to starboard in the town of Pontecesures before the bridge that connects this town with Padrón.
