To learn more

La Finca de La Alfranca has a rich and varied history. Originally, in the 18th century, it belonged to the monks of the Monasterio de Rueda. Later, it passed into private hands and underwent various transformations over the centuries. During the 19th century, it became a recreational estate, with its palace house being one of the most prominent buildings of the time. Today, the estate is managed by the Government of Aragón and has become a reference center for environmental education and nature conservation.

The architectural complex of La Alfranca was declared a Historical-Artistic Monument by the Ministry of Culture on April 7, 1982, and a Site of Cultural Interest by the Government of Aragón on May 5, 2001. It consists of three buildings: the palace of the Marqueses de Ayerbe, the convent of San Vicente de Paúl, and the stables. All correspond to different construction periods and architectural styles. The last restoration of these buildings took place at the end of the 20th century under the Government of Aragón.

The palace of the Marqueses de Ayerbe, or Casa Palafox, reflects a neoclassical style. It was built in the 17th century and its construction model is very representative of the era. Of sober proportions, its main façade stands out with a projecting portico on the ground floor that becomes a balcony on the second floor. Surrounding the palace are the historic gardens. These French-influenced neoclassical works date from the 18th century and are designed in two settings. The main garden, located in front of the building's façade, and the intimate garden at the rear. Currently, the palace of the Marqueses de Ayerbe is used for events, meetings, exhibitions, and as an administrative headquarters.
